On 08.06.2026, a Workshop on Determining Priorities for the Care Economy in North Macedonia was held at the premises of the Resource Center for Gender Responsive Policymaking and Budgeting. This important event was organized by the UN Women Office in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth. The main goal of the joint work was to map in detail the current situation and systemic gaps, to identify key challenges in the existing care system and to define priority directions for future action in specific thematic areas. The workshop is part of a broader regional initiative to transform care systems, which UN Women is implementing with financial support from the United Kingdom, in order to encourage long-term social and economic reforms. During the discussions at the Resource Center, special attention was paid to the role of the European Care Strategy in shaping national policies, which is of utmost importance given the country’s ongoing accession process to the European Union. Through the process of gender-responsive budgeting, reforms in the care economy are positioned as a direct investment in human capital and social equity, contributing to reducing the gender gap in the country.
