Today, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy met with the representatives of UN Women - Skopje. The meeting discussed various forms of violence against women, cooperation and promotion of gender responsive policies and budgeting, as well as the new Law on Gender Equality and the establishment of the first Resource Center for gender responsive policy making and budgeting.
Minister Trenchevska pointed out that the Republic of Northern Macedonia has taken and will continue to take steps to ensure protection of equality between men and women. In that direction, said Trencevska, is the adoption of the new Law on Gender Equality.
"We will not stop until we have a full balance in gender equality. We will continue to introduce mechanisms to promote and strengthen gender equality. With the new Law on Gender Equality, we will establish concrete measures to achieve gender balance in all public institutions by taking legal measures to enable more balanced participation of women and men in public life and decision-making. "Only with true equality between men and women will we have a just and democratic society based on the rule of law," Trencevska said.
The head of the UN Women office Vesna Ivanovi --Kastard and the program coordinator of the project for gender-responsible budgeting, Ivona Paunovi --Biseac, at the meeting promoted the celebration of important dates related to gender equality. On the eve of the International Women's Day - March 8, they said that with the campaign that will last 10 days, they will oppose the stereotypes that limit women and girls in their equality.
The interlocutors concluded that the Republic of Northern Macedonia has made great progress in gender equality, but that the role of women in society should be actively strengthened.
